Prominent blockchain figure and founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin has recently revealed his cryptocurrency holdings and corporate investments. Buterin disclosed it all in a Reddit thread labeled “AMA [ask me anything] about Ethereum Leadership and Accountability”, where he talked about his holdings and gave a breakdown of its compensation and investments.
According to the February 19 Reddit thread, most of the Ethereum founder assets are held in Ether. According to his primary crypto wallet address, the most famous man in the blockchain community holds around 350,000 ETH, worth $50 million.
He also expressed that he is in possession of other wallets in addition to his main one, he stated on twitter “I also have some other addresses, but they’re quite small relatively speaking,”
Additionally, the Euthereum founder has multiple holdings not related to Euthereum. Among them are, Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dogecoin (DOGE), and Zcash (ZEC), all worth less than 10 percent of his total ETH holdings.
Among his Ethereum-related holdings are, Kyber Network (KNC), Maker (MKR), OmiseGO (OMG), and Augur (REP), combined all are also worth less than 10 percent of his ETH holdings.
However, Buterin did not reveal a large number of his airdrop tokens. Airdrop tokens are coins given out to holders of certain digital currencies as a marketing tool. Vitalik Buterin is known to have received around more than $2,000 worth of tokens via airdrop.
According to his primary wallet, Vitalik’s OmiseGO holdings are around $40,000 at current prices. In his different wallets, it is believed that some of his holdings are $693,000 in Maker, $625,000 in Augur (Reputation), another $25,000 in OmiseGO, $25,000 in Kyber Network, and $11,000 in Trustcoin.
As for his corporate investments, Vitalik Buterin has shareholdings in both Clearmatics and StarkWare.
Clearmatics is a blockchain and software development firm with a mission to “Build peer-to-peer infrastructure for a machine-driven future that is resistant to the monopoly-making tendencies of network effects inherent in today’s client-server architectures.”
Founded by Robert Sams and Vitalik Buterin, the company has managed to raise around $13.3 million in funding. The company is a member of the Ethereum Enterprise Alliance.
Like Clearmatics, StarkWare Industries Ltd. is also a software company with a focus to solve the scalability and privacy issues around blockchain systems. According to CrunchBase, the company has raised around $36 million.
The Ethereum founder has also mentioned that he receives a salary from the Ethereum Foundation. Although his current salary is unknown, it is believed that he received around $150,000 yearly in 2016.
In general, Buterin is a strong believer in transparency from blockchain projects and leaders in the blockchain and Ethereum ecosystem.
